Saturday, September 10th - Orientaiton for Hospice Patient Support Volunteers

We will be doing our next Patient Support Orientation at Altus Hospice on Saturday, September 10th, 2016! If you are interested in becoming a Hospice Volunteer - anywhere in the Austin or surrounding areas - please contact me. We are really needing volunteers in, East Austin, Cedar Park, Round Rock, and Georgetown.

No medical experience required.

What our Patient Support Volunteers do: (but not limited to)

  • visit with patients where they reside

    • listen to stories about life and travels
    • read a book
    • watch TV or a movie
    • take patient outside
    • go for a walk
    • read to patient
    • be read to
    • get hugged
    • smile
    • laugh out loud
  • give a caregiver a break

    • sit with a patient while a caregiver: goes to the store or doctor, takes a nap, goes out to lunch with friends.....
  • visit with our bereaved - (loved ones left behind when someone dies)

    • either in person, or over the phone
    • call our bereaved and check in with them to see how they are doing

Our Volunteers choose:

  • WHAT they want to do as a volunteer
  • WHERE they want to volunteer
  • WHEN they want to volunteer

We are really needing Volunteers

  • South - Especially in East Austin

  • North - in the Round Rock and Georgetown areas

  • Cedar Park
