Immigrant Career Pathways is a new project offered at the Hartford Public Library that is geared towards helping the immigrant community in Hartford with the focus of getting them on a career path in the food service industry.
As a tutor, you would help Adult students, who are not all fluent in English, study for the ServSafe certification exam, which upon passing, he/she would become a National Qualified Food Operator. With this certification, a person can work at any restaurant or even open their own food service business.
As a tutor, you would also provide your student with insight about the food service industry in the U.S. and guide him/her as to where to look for employment in this area The project’s goals are to provide newcomer immigrants a path to self-sufficiency, as well as, greater access to both networking and employment opportunities in the food and hospitality industry.
It is important that both the tutors and the students have the time and dedication to meet 2 hours a week for a duration of at least three months.
