ORGANIZATION: Aftercare for Indiana through Mentoring (AIM)

AIM, a non-profit organization serving at-risk youth is looking for positive adults to mentor boys and girls ages 13-18. It only takes 1 hour a week or 2 hours twice a month to make a difference. Hours are flexible. Mentors are matched with a youth based on interests, location and preferences. We provide training and support. The mission of AIM is to support at-risk youth through caring adult mentoring relationships and innovative programming that empowers them to achieve their full potential and become valued contributing members of their communities.

Description

AIM is a 501(c)93) nonprofit youth-serving organization that was developed at IUPUI in 1996. AIM works with youth ages 12-22.

AIM's vision is that all youth will have access to the tools, resources and support necessary to develop their strengths, overcome barriers and successfully transition into happy, healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of their communites.

Our guiding philosophies include:

  • We value youth as important individuals.

  • We help empower them to discover and develop their positive attributes.

  • We help them learn from the mistakes they have made in the past.

  • We strive to educate the public about the importance of our work and the needs of the youth.

AIM provides the following services for transitional and at-risk youth.

Youth mentoring, tutoring, career exploration workshops, employment coaching, culinary/food-based job training, and healthy cooking and nutriton workshops.
