Help a Nonprofit Develop a Technology Plan through Plan IT!

ORGANIZATION: 501 Commons

In today’s world, efficient technology can help nonprofits make a greater impact in their communities. Unfortunately, too often organizations face challenges in this area and are not adequately using the technology available to them to their advantage.

Plan IT is a technology-focused action-learning program that transforms how nonprofits approach their tech and incorporate it into their day-to-day operations. 501 Commons seeks volunteers with diverse technology skills and a broad understanding of business technology to serve as Technology Planning Consultants for the fall 2016 cohort.

Plan IT is different from other tech consulting programs in that the consultants provide their clients a better understanding of how technology works within their organizations, a deeper look into how certain platforms can make their work more efficient, and a plan for applying this learning toward practical solutions. The goal is not to tell the client what to do, but instead to listen to their needs and craft an appropriate and realistic strategy accordingly.

As a consultant, Plan IT provides the opportunity to:

  • Increase an organization’s understanding of their tech needs and how they can better utilize it to their advantage
  • Hone your listening and facilitating skills
  • Apply your knowledge of business technology in a high-impact volunteer role
  • Learn about strategic planning and decision-making processes
  • Become an Executive Service Corps member

The Plan IT process: Two volunteer consultants are paired with a nonprofit organization to guide them through a structured process to assess their technology strengths and weaknesses, identify goals, and create a tangible action plan to achieve them. The commitment is 10-12 hours per month from September to December 2016.

To apply, visit the Engage section of our website: www.501commons.org and select Technology Consultant.

Description

501 Commons was founded in 1989 as Executive Service Corps of Washington. In 2010, we changed our name to 501 Commons, reflecting a changing role and broader range of services. Most of our clients are in the Pacific Northwest, but many of our services are available to nonprofits in other geographic areas.

Our name is based on the principle of the "the commons." The commons can be characterized as having five distinct attributes:

  1. Free and uncoerced participation
  2. A shared purpose
  3. Jointly held resources
  4. A sense of mutuality
  5. Relationships that are characterized by justice and fairness

Our Theory of Practice describes how we approach our work and our Team Charter describes how our team of 45+ work together to serve our clients.

501 Commons is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible, nonprofit, charitable organization and is a member of the Executive Service Corps - United States. By volunteering your time to 501 Commons, you are impacting the success of over 2,000 organizations each year. Join us!
