The ESL program at Welcome House


ADULT ESL INSTRUCTOR (part-time, volunteer)

Reports to: ESL Program Coordinator

  • Teaches one 3-hour weekly beginner level class with 8-10 students, for a 12 week course (Sep-Dec)
  • Supervises a volunteer Teacher Assistant and provides continuing feedback
  • Is main point of contact for students enrolled in class
  • Collects and records student attendance, and assessment data
  • Assists program coordinator in preparing lesson plans and gathering class materials
  • Follows assigned class syllabus, and administers an end-of-class assessment tool


  • A Bachelors degree; Education/Linguistics majors preferred with an average 3.0 GPA or higher. Would consider a college student in junior or senior year.
  • Advanced fluency in Spanish highly desired
  • Able to dedicate 3.5-hours per week on Monday nights, from 5.30-8.30 PM
  • At least one year of prior experience teaching, or tutoring low literacy adult students highly desirable.
