Project Development


HFH Calcasieu Area is seeking a Project Development VISTA who will work with host site staff and volunteers to develop and implement new programs, create or improve policies and procedures, and develop strategies to build leadership and leverage resources that increase the number of families served through the Habitat mission. Additionally, this VISTA member will work specifically with various community organizations, specifically with the Home Building Association of Southwest Louisiana to understand the need for affordable housing. This VISTA member will also develop projects with community organizations that will assist the staff, Board and community in understanding the need for affordable housing as a result of the dramatic economic boon in progress.

Member Activities Include:

  1. Develop new systems and programs that will increase the number of families served at the site.
  2. Develop community partnerships that will support programs, develop leadership and leverage resources.
  3. Develop methods to increase participation with project, including presentations, materials and systems for recruitment of partners, volunteers and leadership.
  4. Develop systems to accurately track and record project related data, focused on ensuring sustainability. Develop evaluation tools that will assist in projecting and assessing project impact.
  5. Formulate results and present to key stakeholders to establish direction of project.
  6. Develop all processes, materials, and procedures for project.
  7. Develop Critical Home Repair plan to increase number of families served

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills required for this position

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements
  • Personal vehicle required
  • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word/Excel)
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity and AmeriCorps
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Experience working as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of community development practices preferred
  • Project management experience preferred

Requirements to serve at this site:
18 years of age or older
U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent (or agree to work towards one while serving)
Confirm understanding that this is a full-time volunteer opportunity and that AmeriCorps members receive a small living allowance
