Empowering and Supporting Women Together

As a volunteer Crisis Responder, you are a trained advocate for surviovrs of sexual assault, responding moments after the assault in order to reduce the long term effects of the trauma.

Volunteers are willing to be placed on a call list for the two Elkhart county hospitals. A crisis responder is willing to be contacted to see if he or she is available to come to the hospital to support the survivor. Advocates will be trained and provided with necessary resources. Volunteers are also encouraged to attend quaterly Sexual Assault Response Team community meetings.

What will the advocate do?

-Offer emotional support

-Provide a new pair of clothing to patient

-Answer questions survivor might have

-Help survivor know what to expect

-Contact family as requested

-Provide emotional support to family members and inform them how best to respond to the survivor.

-Provide valuable resources
