ORGANIZATION: Open Space STL

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 6 people are interested

We need your help to steward the natural environment at Deer Creek Park, known to locals as Rocketship Park. Volunteers will plant native trees along the Deer Creek Greenway. Your assistance will help improve water quality, enhance wildlife habitat, and create a healthier environment for all. Interested volunteers can register to attend on our Eventbrite page. https://operationwildlands.eventbrite.com

Enter Deer Creek Park off Laclede Station Road in Maplewood and park in either of the two parking lots. Jay will be waiting for volunteers under one of the pavilions. Look for the tall man with the tools.

We will provide necessary tools, gloves, snacks, and water for this event. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Ages 15+ are invited to join us; youth under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. As a thank you, all Operation Wild Lands volunteers will receive a gift card for a free burrito generously donated by our friends at Chipotle!

This event is sponsored by The Open Space Council in partnership with Great Rivers Greenway. Learn more at www.openspaceSTL.org and www.greatriversgreenway.org

About Open Space STL

Location:

P.O. Box 220011, St. Louis, MO 63122, US

Mission Statement

Founded in 1965, Open Space STL works independently and collaboratively to conserve and sustain land, water, and other natural resources for the health and well-being of people throughout the St. Louis region.

Description

The Open Space Council is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving public and private open space lands in the St. Louis region. It identifies areas that can be acquired and set aside for public use, and attempts to discourage improper land use and detrimental development. Preserving and restoring plant and animal habitats, which encourages biodiversity, is an important outcome of the organization's work.

The Open Space Council strives to accomplish its mission in the following ways:

Informing the Public at Large
A community that is knowledgeable about its natural areas and threats posed to them is an invaluable ally in conservation efforts.

Advising Decision Makers
Crucial to achieving our purpose is making our concerns know to the political and other leaders entrusted with the fate of our public lands.

Advocating for Proper land Use
The council serves as an organization for open space, supporting, urging, favoring, and articulating important positions in an objective manner.

Acting Directly
In the absence of government action, it is both necessary and effective to obtain private funding for the acquisition of lands for the public good.
