EMS Providers

VOLUNTEERS make everything we do every day possible and many of our agencies are in critical need of your help! We count on the friendliness, teamwork and dedication of effective and efficient staff to keep our operations running smoothly 24/7 year round.

Of course, we always need people who want to respond to calls to help the sick and injured in their community. But you may not know that we also always need volunteers around to do the other life-saving work (and don’t require any training) like keeping the equipment in good working condition, ensuring our properties stay maintained, assisting in public education and awareness of what we do, and making sure our fundraising efforts stay on track and are successful-just to name a few.

You can put your expertise or experience in any field to work for us, and you’ll be saving lives, one volunteer at a time. Many member agencies provide the opportunity for you to do a ride-along with them so you can see if direct patient care is for you.

Description

Central Shenandoah EMS Council (CSEMS) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation which provides regional EMS education & training, planning and technical support services to its five cities and five counties, eleven towns and many public agencies within it boundary. Localities served by the Council include: the cities of Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro and the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Rockbridge and Rockingham. The region mirrors the boundaries of Virginia’s Sixth Planning District which covers a geographic area of 3,439 square miles with a population of over 278,000. This makes the region the Commonwealth’s largest planning district, geographically speaking, and fifth largest in terms of population. The 65 member EMS agencies are a mix of non-profit, government and private, for-profit services with a mixture of both paid and volunteer staff.

Established in 1979, we have continued to provide facilitation for regional planning and implementation of the regional EMS system. We provide for consistent initial certification courses and continuing education offerings for all EMS agencies within the region. We also have one of the most active training centers in the Commonwealth for the American Heart Association.
