As a National Historic Landmark, Old Fort Jackson is Georgia’s oldest standing brick fortification. For over 208 years, Fort Jackson has protected the city of Savannah and state of Georgia during some of the nation’s greatest military threats, including the War of 1812 and American Civil War. Today, Old Fort Jackson tells Savannah’s diverse history through regularly scheduled cannon firings, engaging tours, and educational programs; providing exciting sights and sounds for over 50,000 guests and school groups per year. The Fort does not receive any state or federal support, but depends on the revenue from daily visitors and educational programs for operational funding. Once a year however, Old Fort Jackson hosts a Silent Auction and Low Country Boil to raise additional revenue crucial to Fort operations. The 35th Annual Auction and Low country Boil will be held at Old Fort Jackson on Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at 6:00 pm. The event is free to attend, open to the public, and will bring members of the community together for delicious local food, fun activities for families, and a diverse silent auction supported by businesses and individuals. For this event, volunteers are needed for duties such as registering bidders, taking food tickets/payment, and serving as a parking attendant. All volunteers must submit a CHS volunteer application and are subject to background screenings. Unless otherwise stated, event volunteers must be over the age of 18.
