Construction Systems Development

Henderson County HFH is seeking a Construction Systems Development VISTA who will assist in the development of a comprehensive process for the affiliate's construction system - for both homeownership and homeowner-occupied repair programs. This VISTA member will address key components needed to increase construction capacity efficiently and safely.

Member Activities Include:

  1. Develop and document a plan to improve or expand the organization’s construction operations. This may include systems targeted at traditional house construction, as well systems for expanded services such as rehabs and our Home Repair Program (HRP).
  2. Develop systems for improvements to the construction process to include possible changes to current software or databases to make the process easy to track and reference. This may include software for inventory management and construction budgets and schedules.
  3. Develop filing systems, both paper and electronic, to manage and archive important documents needed for construction operations.
  4. Develop systems for improvements to the work site safety manuals, site volunteer trainings, emergency plans, etc. Create a Construction Safety Manual that includes OSHA standards and will be specific to all construction-related activities on the job site.
  5. In collaboration with construction staff, develop and document scopes of work for all work processes utilizing subcontractors.
  6. Develop a through list of all required documents for the construction process.
  7. Develop process to enhance inventory control process.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills required for this position

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements
  • Personal vehicle required
  • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word/Excel)
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity and AmeriCorps
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Experience working as a member of a team
  • Project management experience preferred

Requirements to serve at this site:
18 years of age or older
U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent (or agree to work towards one while serving)
Confirm understanding that this is a full-time volunteer opportunity and that AmeriCorps members receive a small living allowance
