GRAM is a HUGE part of ArtPrize every year!
ArtPrize is recognized as the most-attended public art event on the planet according to The Art Newspaper, and was recently highlighted in The New York Times’ 52 Places To Go in 2016.
For 19 days in the early fall, around 400,000 attendees descend upon three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown in over 160 venues-museums, galleries, bars, restaurants, theaters, hotels, public parks, lobbies, buildings, walls, bridges, laundromats, and auto body shops-and it’s all free and open to the public.
And GRAM is in the thick of it all!
Volunteers help many ways during ArtPrize! We could never hold this event without them. For 2016, the shifts run Sept. 21st through Oct. 9th, in increments of every two hours.
The many areas to choose from are:
1 - Guest Services (greeting/assisting/directing guests, and helping with item check - available all days of ArtPrize)
2 - Voter Registration (registering people to vote during ArtPrize - available Sept. 21st to Oct. 6th). Simple data entry skills are needed.
3 - Elevator Attendant (greeting and running the passenger elevator for guests to ensure it runs smoothly) Fri - Sun shifts only.
4 - Member Terrace (Greeting and helping members check in through the Member Terrace outside - available all days of ArtPrize)
5 - Group Tour Greeter (greeting group tours as they arrive, giving a brief introduction to the GRAM - these shifts are available only 10:00 am - 12:00 Noon M-F)
