We are currently looking for writing/literary arts teachers for our school year (October 2016 - June 2017) program. Our program is a visual and literary arts program and you may spend some time throughout the year working with an artist/teaching artist. You will have the opportunity to create your curriculum to teach our students different writing disciplines and engage them in projects related to self-expression/exploration, current events, and other subjects of interest. You will work with the students to create works suitable for a show/exhibit at the end of the year.
We are looking for writers/teachers that can teach various literary arts disciplines - poetry, short essay, biography, etc. Please contact us whether you are interested in teaching for the whole school year, a semester, or a particular subject/discipline for a limited time. We are open to the right teacher or combination of teachers.
The class schedule has not yet been finalized as we are willing to work with your schedule. One class of students ranges in age from 7-14 years and is tentatively scheduled to meet on Saturday afternoons. The other ranges in age from 13-18 years and may meet 2 days per week after school and every other Saturday.
At Artsmith, we are dedicated to providing arts education to young people in the Bronx who have little or no opportunity to experience the arts. We know that the arts provide our students with a great and safe place to learn creativity, experiment and take risks, develop discipline, and build confidence. Arts education should not be a question of access. You must believe in this mission to volunteer with us!
