Painting 101
Students paint with artist RT Morgan.

Artsmith is a young nonprofit providing arts programming to children in the Bronx. We are currently looking for artists and/or teaching artists for various programs and events our organization runs.

Arts 101: Arts 101 is our introductory arts program serving elementary, middle and high school students. The program is designed to teach students ways to express themselves and explore important topics using various artistic methods that may include writing, drawing, painting, photography, cooking, fashion, etc. We are looking for artists/teaching artists that can teach one or more arts disciplines. The program meets once per week on Saturday afternoons. Contact us whether you'd like to teach a single class or make a longer commitment.

Paint and Sip: Our paint and sips are fundraisers that are held at local Bronx venues. If you are a painter interested in leading these events please contact us. We will provide the necessary materials for you and the participants.

At Artsmith, we are dedicated to providing arts education to young people in the Bronx who have little or no opportunity to experience the arts. We know that the arts provide our students with a great and safe place to learn creativity, experiment and take risks, develop discipline, and build confidence. Arts education should not be a question of access. You must believe in this mission to volunteer with us!

Email resume and 2-3 art samples to tricia.smith@artsmith.org.

** During this time of COVID-19, our programming will be done remotely. Teaching artists must be able to deliver instruction via virtual methods such as Zoom. Paint and sip events are currently on hold until indoor dining is allowed in NYC, but please feel free to apply in the meantime if you are interested in leading them. **

About ARTSMITH INC

4165 WHITE PLAINS RD STE 1563, BRONX, NY 10466, US

Mission Statement

To provide quality arts programming to young people from the Bronx that will enable them to learn about themselves, others, and the world around them; explore topics and issues that affect them as they age and mature; and inspire them to dream beyond the image that is often presented to them about who they will and can become.

Description

New York City, one of the most racially diverse cities in the nation, has one of the most segregated public school systems when it comes to race and poverty. Children living in the city’s low-income neighborhoods, a significant amount in parts of the Bronx, have unequal access to the arts.

Artsmith is non-profit organization that provides quality arts-centered programming to underserved Bronx youth from the ages of 8-18. Many studies supported by education scholars and policy-makers, show that the Arts is necessary for providing a well-rounded education. We use the Arts to counter the widening gap between the socioeconomically elite and the disadvantaged. At Artsmith we believe that every child, in spite of socio-economic status, should have access to the Arts. The arts allow us all to stretch the limits of what we view as possible, and for those whose paths are filled with societally imposed obstacles, this is particularly meaningful. The Arts can give a voice to the silenced. We want to help tomorrow’s leaders to find their voices and participate in the conversations that will shape their communities and the world.
