NOTE - THIS IS THANKSGIVING SUNDAY!!
This is an excellent opportuity to help The M.O.R.G.A.N. Project raise awareness and funds to support our multi-sensory Quality of Life support programs for children with disabiities!
We will be assigned a water station along the courseway, and it will be our responsibiity to set up the station, mix the gatorade, fill the cups and clean up along our assigned stretch of road. We will be handing out water, gatorade and goo to the runners throughout the half-marathon and the marathon so this is an ALL DAY event for us. Once we are assigned our station intersection we will know what time to expect to be done (north route ends earlier than the south route) but that won't be until sometime in November.
THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!
No children permitted as it gets very active very fast and having thousands of runners converge upon you at the same time that will NOT slow down to grab that cup from you can be a little bit scary as well as dangerous for the younger ones. We are limiting this to over 16 years of age only please.
We encourage our "team" to wear your favorite space-themed costumes as we will be cheering the runners on, too! This is a fast paced volunteer opportunity and you will spend the time on your feet (very little opportunity to sit) so keep that in mind before signing up.
We have done this before and although its hard wokr it is also SO MUCH FUN!! Even more so if you bring a friend to share the day with:)
Excellent opportunity for anyone that needs a lot of community service hours!
A long, scenic marathon and half-marathon event that takes runners along a course that unfolds entirely along the waters of the Indian River that flows between the cities of Cocoa and Cocoa Beach, the Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon features a course known for long, flat stretches shaded by the ever-present palm trees along the roads.
It’s also famous for its few long, sloping gentle hills, and for being Florida’s oldest marathon road race event, as race organizers and runners will celebrate its 45th annual running in the late fall of 2016. Both the 13.1-mile half marathon and the 26.2-mile full marathon start on Brevard Avenue near Cocoa’s Riverfront Park, whose pavilion serves as the finish line for both races as well.
From the starting line, runners follow an out-and-back course that takes them northward along Indian River Drive for the entire length of the course, for a long straightway for six and a half miles out and then a long straightaway return run for six and a half miles back in toward the finish line.
