Description
Since 1969 UCAN programs have been offering services to those who are in need in all of Douglas and Josephine County . Many things have changed in these counties but UCAN's willingness to help those in need is now stronger than ever. UCAN promotes resources and opportunities that increase self-sufficiency of low income persons within the county. Through the operations of programs and in partnerships with other agencies, UCAN strives to alleviate poverty and to impact the quality of life for the elderly, poor, and disabled individuals.
UCAN is a non-judgmental organization. We accept our clients for who they are. We believe in the inner-good of our participants. We do not question the reason people come to us for assistance. We expect our participants to be honest with us and in return we do the same. Our main goal is teaching citizens how to become self-sufficient which gives them a chance to make a better life for themselves. Between July 2002 and July 2003, UCAN helped 25% of Douglas County 's citizens meet basic needs through five major programs: Food Shares, Transitions, CHESS, Family Connections, and Head Start. Over the years, each of these programs has been very successful at helping families and individuals learn the skills necessary to live a more self-sufficient life. UCAN is working to give people all of the resources they need to make their dream a reality. Volunteers like you have always played an integral role in providing resources to the community. Your willingness to help people in need is contagious to others and vital in spreading the importance of our organization throughout the community. UCAN, similar to other organizations, relies heavily on volunteers like you to help us run our programs on a day to day basis. Volunteers have also helped in an abundance of special projects that are a direct benefit to the people who need help the most. Ultimately, without volunteers, UCAN would not be the organization it is today. We sincerely hope that your time at UCAN will not only be a positive and enjoyable experience but also that you will gain personal satisfaction from knowing that you have made a difference in someone's life.
