Aim for Advocacy

It’s our Annual Aim for Advocacy Event and we need YOUR help! This year’s event will be bigger than ever and we are in need of volunteers to assist in registration, hospitality, sales, golf carts, pullers, and directional greeters. The event will take place on Thursday, August 25, at the Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville. We ask that volunteers arrive at 7:00 AM to ensure enough time for registration, training and lunch prior to the start of the tournament. We anticipate the tournament wrapping up around 2:30 PM and all volunteers are welcome to stay for the following reception and auction.

This is an outdoor event in late August, so it will be HOT. All volunteers should be able to stand for extended periods of time. Hearing protection, refreshments and lunch will be provided to for all volunteers. We encourage our volunteers to wear shorts and a t-shirt will be provided. Lastly, all volunteers must wear closed toed shoes and bring sunglasses or other eye-protection.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) is to improve the lives of abused children in Dallas County and to provide national leadership on child abuse issues. DCAC coordinates the investigation and prosecution of the most severe cases of child abuse in our community. Last year, DCAC served almost 2,800 children (and their non-offending family members) who were sexually abused, severely physically abused, or who had witnessed a violent crime

Description

DCAC provides a warm, child-friendly environment to help children who are referred by law enforcement or CPS. Our average client is a 9-10 year-old girl, sexually abused by someone she knows and trusts. A DCAC forensic interviewer listens to the child’s story and asks non-leading, developmentally-appropriate questions as the child talks about the trauma he/she has experienced. Law enforcement and CPS professionals observe the interview from a separate room. This reduces trauma for the child and provides for a much stronger case if the case goes to court.
