ORGANIZATION: Oldsmar Organic Community Garden (OOCG)

Want to do something fun and meaningful in the Oldsmar community? The Oldsmar Organic Community Garden (OOCG) is looking for an outgoing person to help as the volunteer President for our successful and growing community garden.

By volunteering to be the OOCG President you would be teamed up with other OOCG members to make a change on the local level to promote a greener, healthier lifestyle through organic gardening while helping to make a difference in our environment.

OOCG President Volunteer Position Duties

The President works with the members and the community to help increase a sense of community ownership and stewardship by bringing people together from a wide variety of backgrounds to work with our community to maintain plots and community garden grounds.

The OOCG President assists other OOCG Officers and Members in all or some of the following:

Oversee committees - Set priorities, review materials, check calendars, resolve issues.

Understand budget - Oversee expenditures in coordination with Treasurer.

Inform membership - Work with all committees to where appropriate, keep membership updated through emails, newsletters, and meetings.

Oversee meetings and events - Develop monthly meeting agendas and distribute. Preside over meetings and events. Be familiar with bylaws/procedural rules and ensure they are upheld.

Get feedback - Solicit feedback from membership on procedures, changes, including areas of possible controversy. Ensure actions are supported by a vote of membership at a meeting. Hold at least one board meeting per year for planning and review.

Develop new programs, support new ideas - Solicit new ideas, evaluate, make changes or help form new committees as appropriate. Support fundraising and civic projects.

Be the face of the club - Introduce meetings, support Membership committee, look for opportunities to make the OOCG visible to City of Oldsmar and Pinellas County community.

Maintain link with the City of Oldsmar and local Garden Clubs - Attend City/Town Hall Meetings when possible to promote the OOCG.

Keep it Fun - Make sure there are opportunities for fun social interaction and that all members have a chance to get involved in activities. Help new members feel welcome. Recognize and reward hard work.

Additional tasks may include:

  • Watering grounds
  • Removal of weeds during growing season
  • Dig garden beds
  • Harvest from gardens
  • Hold training on and offsite garden location to educate the community of the benefits of organic gardening

It offers raised bed gardening plots to the community and provides educational information about organic gardening, while supplementing community outreach programs and building new community relationships. We welcome those who are passionate about gardening the way nature intended.
