KAVI is seeking adult (18+) mentors who can maintain an ongoing, individual relationship with KAVI participants during out-of-school hours. Mentors may be matched to students based on professional interest or personal attributes. Mentors would be expected to spend extracurricular time with mentees, listen and support them, provide academic support and career advice as needed, and generally act as a positive adult role model. Mentors are invited to join KAVI school and community programming as their schedule allows.
Mentoring is a great way to give to KAVI without committing to specific dates and times. Mentors would be expected to their mentee 2x/month and informally report back to KAVI staff about these meetings. KAVI staff are also available to provide support and address any concerns that mentors have about their role or their mentees.
The ideal mentor has some background or experience working with teens, but otherwsie we are open to people with a variety of backgrounds. KAVI YO works from a youth empowerment perspective; we seek to create a space and provide information for young people to make safe, healthy choices on their own. Our belief that they have an innate capacity to do so is at the heart of our work, and we expect all volunteers to work within this framework.
The process to volunteer with KAVI includes a background screening, references, and an in-person interview.
