Volunteer position description: The position of Warehouse Food Sorter serves to inspect, sort, and pack donated food to insure that agencies and clients are provided a safe supply of food from Agape Food Bank. Individuals and groups are welcome.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and separate donated food into categories, such as dry goods and produce.
- Check expiration dates, discard damaged product and check for recalled items.
- Bag, box, or repack and make ready for distribution.
- Directs any exceptional circumstances to staff as appropriate.
- Follow safety guidelines to maintain positive and safe working environment
- Other duties as assigned
Working conditions: Non-climate controlled warehouse.
Support: Training for this position will be provided. In addition, the Warehouse Associates will be available for questions and assistance.
Dress Code: Casual. Sturdy, structured closed toe shoe with non-slip sole.
Schedule requirements: Volunteer shifts are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 15 positions needed daily. Volunteers must serve for at least 4 hours per shift. Weekend and evenings are available by special appointment for groups.
Commitment requirements: Individuals and groups may sign up for shifts as their schedule permits. There are no commitment requirements for this position.
Qualifications: Physically able to perform duties required to stand, bend, lift and carry, read and recognize labels, perform repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and arms. Required to lift, push or pull not to exceed 25 pounds. Assistance will be provided for lifting and/or moving products and packaging of an awkward shape or containers exceeding 25 pounds.
Age Restrictions: Must be 14 years of age or older. Volunteers under age 18 require signed Youth Liability Waiver form and adult supervision.
