AVP SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY is looking for volunteers to go into local prisons to participate in conflict resolution workshops. We have AVP in CCWF Chowchilla Womens prison, SATF Corcoran Sub Abuse Treatment Facility and CSP-COR Corcoran State Prison. There is a short clearance form and if you are formerly incarcerated there may be an opportunity for you to attend as well. The waiting list for these workshops inside are sometimes years long. It is a much needed, much sought after program. We are in desperate need of volunteers willing to go inside. If you are at all interested or would like to sit down and have some coffe (on me) please contact me! AVP is throughout the state in 22 prisons. The call for volunteers is not just in Fresno. Any and all interested people are encouraged to contact me!! The classes are very rewarding and will give you the opportunity to see that life, hope, love and faith all continue beyond those walls. Please contact Irene at 559-942-0708 via phone or text or email at avp.irene@gmail.com to get more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Mission Statement
Welcome to AVP California! AVP is "Alternatives to Violence Project," a program working to reduce violence by learning about relationships, communication, and conflict resolution through workshops in prisons, jails, and the community. AVP California is volunteer-run, non-profit, organized by local councils around the state, and part of AVP USA and AVP International. We invite you to learn about AVP, take a workshop, and even become a volunteer facilitator!
Description
ABOUT AVP WORKSHOPS: Our workshops are experiential, rather than lecture, and draw from participants' own experiences of violence and conflict. Workshops focus on conflict resolution, community building and communication skills to empower healthy interpersonal relationships and communities.
The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a Global, National and State level organization that provides conflict resolution/transformation workshops through local AVP councils. Our community programs include restorative justice programs, school programs, service provider training, community building and civic agency training. At the state level, we work with the California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) inside of 22 of their 35 prisons working to reduce violence. In 2015 AVP was honored for its work by Cal Volunteers based in the Governor's Office, the San Francisco Community Boards as the Peace Maker of the Year and by CDCR with innovation grants.
