As a GED Adult Learning Tutor, volunteers will assist Samaritan House residents who are preparing to take their GED certification exam. GED classes will be conducted by tutors bi-weekly at Samaritan House Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm-8pm. Serving as a tutor, volunteers will guide Adult Learners through workbooks provided by Samaritan House in areas of Math, Science, Reading and Writing. They will administer practice test in order to assess the level of each Adult Learner. Tutors will encourage residents to work hard to achieve the goal of earning their GED so that they will increase their ability to obtain a job, gain self confidence, and ultimately end homelessness. GED tutors may require instucting more than one individual at a time but no more that 5. There is no experience in education needed to become a tutor at Samaritan House.
