As a GED or ESL Adult Learning Tutor, volunteers will assist Samaritan House residents who are preparing to take their GED certification exam or learn English as their second language. These classes will be conducted by tutors at Samaritan House on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm or during other scheduled days.

In serving as a tutor, volunteers will guide adult learners through workbooks provided by Samaritan House in teaching either language, math, science, reading or writing. All materials are furnished by Samaritan House. Our tutors will administer practice tests in order to assess the progress of each adult learner. Tutors will encourage residents to work hard to achieve their goals to increase their ability to obtain a job, gain self-confidence and ultimately end homelessness.

GED and ESL tutors may require instructing more than one individual at a time, but no more than five. No professional experience in education is needed to tutor at Samaritan House.

To volunteer at Samaritan House - please attend a Lunch&Learn and fully complete a Volunteer Form.
