Coach a Girls on the Run (GOTR) program and inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident! Girls on the Run is an after school program for 3rd-8th grade girls. It is a 10 week program, meeting twice a week for 90 minutes. We use running to empower girls with life skills such as self-awareness, self-confidence, goal setting, team building, and more. At the end of the program we run a celebratory 5K with all GOTR teams, coaches, family, and friends.
**You do not have to be a runner to be a coach**
Coaching a Girls on the Run program is the most rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of girls and have a ton of fun with your team of coaches and incredible girls.
The volunteer coach position works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position works closely with the Executive Director and entails approximately 4 hours per week with additional time required on two to three weekend days for: a one day six hour training; a community race event; and for First Aid/CPR training, if necessary.
Major responsibilities include: preparing, organizing, and supervising the weekly lessons; (curriculum and materials provided) leading the program participants through each lesson; serving as a role model and mentor; coaching program participants on proper stretching, running form, hydration and sports nutrition; attending a community running race with program participants and other volunteers; attending 1 coaches meetings with the Director during the season; interacting with parents of program participants; coordinating the Run for a Reason fundraiser, and understanding and believing in the mission of the organization and acting as a spokesperson for the program.
The Fall 2018 season program is scheduled to begin the week of September 10 through December 15 and will follow the Washington County School District schedule. The Red Mountain Elementary team meets every Monday at 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm and Friday 1:15 pm - 2:45 pm beginning September 10.
This volunteer position may be used as a service learning project, internship, or other college credit project upon agreement of the college/university and Director.
All interested candidates must apply for the volunteer position using the Girls on the Run Southern Utah online application form, www.gotrsouthernutah.org/coach.
