USCRI NC is currently seeking a part-time intern to advocate for the health needs of newly arrived refugees. The intern will be trained by a member of the resettlement team and job responsibilities will include:

• · Increasing access to physical and mental health resources for newly arrived refugees;
• · Helping clients to schedule and maintain appointments with primary care physicians;
• · With the help of interpreters, helping refugees to understand their health care rights and better navigate the NC health system;
• · Meeting with clients to provide additional support concerning health needs and scheduling appropriate appointments with specialists;
• · Tracking client experiences with Medicaid providers;
• · Building the capacity of health care providers to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to refugees, providing education and advocacy when necessary;
• · Coordinating appointments and services and maintaining appointment notes for clients;
• · Communicating with healthcare providers about ongoing barriers or needs of clients served and work to eliminate these barriers;
• · Providing transportation for clients to attend medical appointments or coordinating with volunteers and Medicaid transportation to ensure clients can attend appointments;
• · Educating clients to maintain health insurance benefits and work with benefits specialist and DHS if a lapse occurs;
• · Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
