USCRI NC is currently seeking a part-time intern to advocate for the health needs of newly arrived refugees. The intern will be trained by a member of the resettlement team and job responsibilities will include:
- · Increasing access to physical and mental health resources for newly arrived refugees;
- · Helping clients to schedule and maintain appointments with primary care physicians;
- · With the help of interpreters, helping refugees to understand their health care rights and better navigate the NC health system;
- · Meeting with clients to provide additional support concerning health needs and scheduling appropriate appointments with specialists;
- · Tracking client experiences with Medicaid providers;
- · Building the capacity of health care providers to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to refugees, providing education and advocacy when necessary;
- · Coordinating appointments and services and maintaining appointment notes for clients;
- · Communicating with healthcare providers about ongoing barriers or needs of clients served and work to eliminate these barriers;
- · Providing transportation for clients to attend medical appointments or coordinating with volunteers and Medicaid transportation to ensure clients can attend appointments;
- · Educating clients to maintain health insurance benefits and work with benefits specialist and DHS if a lapse occurs;
- · Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Description
The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants is a private non-profit organization with field offices and partner agencies throughout the US. USCRI NC is dedicated to assisting refugees and immigrants in the Triangle. USCRI NC resettles aproximately 300 refugees from Asia and Africa each year by providing case managment, employment services, and educational opportunities.
