Participating in the Deering Estate Volunteer Workdays encourages individuals, companies, civic groups, and neighborhood associations to volunteer their time and resources to help maintain the beauty of this historical treasure. You may clean up the coastline and mangroves areas, our natural areas trails, fulfill community hours, or complete a scouting badge, just to name a few. Your volunteer efforts will bring smiles to many faces and our community will be a better place as a direct result of your efforts.
The Deering Estate is dedicated to preserve and protect the natural, archaeological, architectural, and historic legacy of the Estate by using wise stewardship in the management and utilization of its sensitive resources, while educating and enhancing the public appreciation of the unique characteristics of the site through compatible uses.
Established in 1989, the Deering Estate Foundation (Foundation), is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 Florida Corporation created to support the Deering Estate (Estate) - a 444 acre natural preserve and historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places with unequaled physical features and learning opportunities located in a single site accessible to the public. The Foundation supports the Deering Estate's mission, programs and projects in order to preserve and protect the natural, archaeological, architectural and historic legacy of the Estate by using wise stewardship in the management and utilization of its sensitive resources, while educating and enhancing the public appreciation of the unique characteristics of the site through compatible uses. The Foundation and the Estate currently partner and co-manage projects and initiatives including the interpretive signage and marker program, youth and adult volunteer programs, Concert Series, Artist Village/Artist in Residence Program, Learning Programs and various conservation and restoration projects. The Foundation also coordinates major community events such as the Seafood Festival, Wine on Harvest Moon, Festival of the Arts and an annual donor and volunteer appreciation event held each May...all to generate awareness about the Estate's mission and its various conservation and environmental stewardship programs.
