Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Forterra

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Help us to kick off the start of planting season with our 11th annual Duwamish Alive celebration! Be one of hundreds of volunteers out on the Green-Duwamish River working to restore this watershed’s critical habitats. Help to plant a tree and leave your legacy out on the River! Join us in our newly landscaped Phase 2 portion of the Hill and see what we’ve been up to this year with our volunteers! This is a great way to get outside with your friends and family, to get your hands dirty, and to do something beneficial for the environment!

Spots fill up quickly for the event, so please reserve your place ahead of time. To register yourself or a group to volunteer, please visit the link below!

What to bring: Please dress for the weather. Boots or comfortable athletic shoes, work clothes, appropriate layers for rain and sun. Coffee and snacks will be provided, but volunteers should also bring a refillable water bottle. Restoration training, tools and gloves will be provided. No experience necessary!

Where to meet: We will meet at the parking lot at the 115th St. Duwamish Hill Preserve entrance.

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
