VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH VOICES FOR JUSTICE ANNUAL DINNER

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Human Rights Watch (Southern California)

  • 17 people are interested

Every year, Human Rights Watch in Santa Barbara holds a "Voices for Justice" Annual Dinner, at which we speak about a specific area of human rights violations, celebrate our successes, and present an award for extraordinary activism (this year’s recipient is Pierre Claver Mbonimpa from Burundi). Every year, we also need volunteers to assist with all aspects of the event as well as joining our local and global community dedicated to protecting and defending human rights. The type of responsibilities our volunteers will have include:

  • Helping staff to set up the main ballroom, cocktail reception/auction ballroom, and registration tables
  • Registering guests and handing out name tags as they arrive
  • Assisting with electronic bidding (on iPads) for silent auction items during cocktails
  • Assisting our photographers to obtain shots of guests with key speakers and celebrities
  • Showing guests to tables
  • Clean up of registration and materials at the end of the event
In addition, volunteers may share in the evening’s activities over dinner. After dinner, there will be a dessert bar and music in the second ballroom.

Mission Statement

Human Rights Watch investigates and reports on abuses happening in all corners of the world.

Description

Human Rights Watch investigates and reports on abuses happening in all corners of the world. We are roughly 550 plus people of 70-plus nationalities who are country experts, lawyers, journalists, and others who work to protect the most at risk, from vulnerable minorities and civilians in wartime, to refugees and children in need. We direct our advocacy towards governments, armed groups and businesses, pushing them to change or enforce their laws, policies and practices. To ensure our independence, we refuse government funding and carefully review all donations to ensure that they are consistent with our policies, mission, and values. We partner with organizations large and small across the globe to protect embattled activists and to help hold abusers to account and bring justice to victims.
