Assist the Project HERO Program Manager at Walter Reed Bethesda with administrative and cycling duties. Ride 2 Recovery’s Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) at Walter Reed Bethesda provides bicycle training and support for wounded, ill and injured active duty and veterans. Begun in 2011, Project HERO Walter Reed Bethesda has proven the effectiveness of group riding in the rehabilitation and recovery of these clients.
Examples of volunteer duties include collecting, recording and summarizing program evaluation and individual rider metrics, helping with bicycle equipment inventory, assisting at Outreach/Marketing events in the local area, keeping track of events for quarterly reports, recruiting new riders, posting ride schedules, maintaining Facebook group, and scheduling new bicycle riders and greeting them.
1.Must have military ID for access to Walter Reed.
2.Must have own road bicycle and be comfortable riding 60 miles or more 3.Must be able to complete basic bicycle maintenance.
4.First aid and CPR training or medical background.
Must also meet two of the following:
1.League of American Bicyclists LCI
2.USA Cycling coach
3.Category 3 or higher racer
4.UBI or USA Cycling Mechanics License or three years full time shop experience
5. Fit technician certified by SICI, FIST, BG, or Trek
6.Certified Spinning instructor
7.Certified yoga instructor
8. Background in PT,RT,AT

Mission Statement
Ride 2 Recovery is produced by the Fitness Challenge, a (501C3) in partnership with the Military and VA Volunteer Service Office to benefit mental and physical rehabilitation programs for our country’s wounded veterans and healing heroes that features cycling as the core activity.
Held in partnership with the Fitness Challenge Foundation, R2R raises money to support cycling programs at military and VA locations around the U.S. to help healing heroes overcome obstacles they face.
Cycling is important part of the recovery process because it’s an activity that everyone can do, no matter the disability and cycling helps speed up the recovery process.
