Who you are: A professional in a science-related career, or a non-science professional working in a science-related organization or company.
Who we are: Carlmont High School’s Biotechnology Institute, a small learning community for 50 science-minded 10th grade students. Where we are: In Belmont, 22 miles south of San Francisco.
How you can contribute: We are looking for several speakers to give one or two hours filled with 15-minute roundtable presentations to rotating groups of 10 students at our fall symposium. Presentation 1 (15 minutes): Your career, educational background, brief job description, and the pros & cons of your field. Presentation 2 (15-minutes): A hot topic in the field of biotechnology, e.g., gene editing, gene therapy, stem cells, or nanotechnology. We would like you to give an overview of the science, its promises, and the ethical issues regarding its use. All together, participating in this event will take up 1-2.5 hours of your time.
Date and time we need volunteers: October 20, 2016. 15-minute roundtable presentations on careers will take place between 9:45 and 10:45. 15-minute roundtable presentations on hot topics in biotech will take place between 10:55 and 11:55. (You can sign up to do either one or both.) If you are interested but unavailable on October 20, there will be another opportunity this spring, so we would love to get your contact information.
