We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about ensuring that children and families in the child welfare system are treated fairly. The FDC is particularly seeking board members with interest in legal services, experience in fundraising and resource development and connections with the philanthropic, financial or business community. Previous board membership experience is helpful but not necessary. Persons who are retired but seeking to stay active in leadership of a social justice organization are also encouraged to consider this opportunity.
The Family Defense Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, advocates for justice for families in the child welfare system. These are families who need our help the most: families threatened with losing their children to foster care. Many parents lose custody of their children to state foster care systems primarily because they are poor or because they are victims of domestic violence. Throughout America, families at risk of separation lack legal resources to mount adequate defenses against abuse or neglect charges even when they are innocent.
The FDC is the first of its kind: a legal advocacy organization that provides high level systemic advocacy and grass-roots programs for families treated unfairly by state child protection agencies. The FDC defends children who can be safely raised in their own families and helps families preserve their right to raise their own children.
Interested? Please send an e-mail to fdc@familydefensecenter.net and attach your resume.
