The Waukegan Public library works with your schedule and location to pair you with someone that needs tutoring. We also provide training and materials to help you become the best tutor!
With training, support, and materials provided by the Adult LiteracyTutoring Program staff, you can help adults improve their reading, writing, math or English language skills.
You can help learners achieve many goals: To build the skills they need to pursue a GED. To improve their work opportunities or become more effective in their current jobs. To learn everyday English to go shopping, communicate with employers, etc. To better support their children's education. To reach their goals.
One tutor said this about working with her ESL student:
"Paula and I have gotten off to a great start! I try to relate our sessions to real life situations and things she is interested in. Paula enjoys cooking... As homework, I told her to take the grocery list with her to the store and ask for the items in English. Next week we are going on a field trip to Chicago to practice using public transportation. We are going to visit the Adler Planetarium because her kids love space!"
Are you ready to use your talents and knowledge to support your community? Then become a tutor with the Waukegan Public Library.
