ORGANIZATION: Meals on Wheels People

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at the center on time (if unable to attend, please notify center manager)
  • Set warm hospitable tone for center
  • Give newcomers a guided tour of the center
  • Assist with filling out registration forms, as needed
  • Take time to visit with participants and show interest in their welfare

Average Time Commitment:

  • Can vary depending upon the needs of the center (typically 3-4 hours)

Age Requirements:

  • No one under the age of 15 may work in the dining hall alone - however, they may work alongside an adult

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Enjoy working with people
  • Support Meals on Wheels People’s goal of promoting health and well-being of older adults
  • Able to work well with a diverse group of individuals
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, patience, and reliability

The vision of Meals on Wheels People is that no senior will go hungry or experience social isolation. We enrich the lives of seniors and assist them in maintaining their independence by making nutritious food, social contacts and other resources easily available. Our organization is community based, emphasizes volunteer involvement and is financially sound.

Description

Meals on Wheels People is a nonprofit, secular organization that has provided seniors with hot meals and opportunities for health, hope and friendship since 1970. Each year more than 7,500 volunteers prepare and deliver 1.3 million meals to seniors in the Portland-Vancouver metro area. The loyal support of our volunteers combined with the generous financial contributions of our donors keeps the vision of Meals on Wheels Centers alive.
