The Melanoma Education Foundation is a non-profit public charity that provides life-saving services throughout the U.S. Our melanoma lessons are taught in over 1700 high schools and middle schools. The lessons educate students and teachers about early self-detection of melanoma, a skin cancer that is often deadly unless found at an early stage. The lessons have saved lives of students and teachers.
This new opportunity involves searching the home pages of designated high school websites to determine whether they have SADD clubs (SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions). Melanoma Warriors can earn community service credit by determining whether high schools in lists we provide have SADD clubs and, if they do, finding the names and email addresses of their faculty advisers. We provide an Excel spreadsheet with school names, web addresses and detailed instructions for entering the information. Spreadsheets have 50 high schools each.
No fundraising, selling, or phone calls are involved. The work can be done anytime during days, evenings, and weekends. We’re guessing volunteers will able to get the information for 50 schools in 4 hours but, because the project is new and we work on an honor system, we ask volunteers to keep track of their actual hours so we can verify them in community service confirmation letters.
