The Visitor Services Assistant orients visitors to the site, makes them feel welcome, and provides informal interpretation. The VC representative answers incoming phone calls, responds to general inquiries, provides information and/or directs calls appropriately (a phone directory and a list of who’s who at the site is in your orientation folder.) Throughout the day, the VC representative ensures the visitor center looks neat and professional and keeps the site bulletins well-stocked at the desk, and in the outside brochure dispenser. In addition to welcoming and informing visitors, answering phones, and the door, the VC representative records and tracks visitor statistics, and does other administrative tasks as assigned.

We request a commitment to work one four-hour shift per week for a minimum of three months.

Mission Statement

Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site preserves and protects for the American people the home and office of Frederick Law Olmsted and the headquarters of the landscape architecture firm he founded from 1883 to 1980. This National Park Service site maintains the Olmsted Archives, an extensive collection of the plans, drawings, photographs and other materials documenting the design and planning work on roughly 6,000 projects throughout the United States and Canada. It also maintains a restored landscape at the site that was originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted when he moved to the property he called "Fairsted" in 1883.

Description

Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site (Olmsted NHS) was the Brookline, Massachusetts home and office of America’s premier "parkmaker" and the designer of the Emerald Necklace park system. Administered since 1980 by the National Park Service as one of its more than 400 sites around the United States, Olmsted NHS was for nearly a century the headquarters of the first full-scale professional landscape architecture office in the United States.
