The co-facilitator will assist with the implementation of the Making Proud Choices! Curriculum in CHCCS eighth grade and ninth grade health classes (September 2017 - May 2018) Making Proud Choices! A Safer Sex Approach to STDs, Teen Pregnancy, and HIV prevention program aims to provide young adolescents with the knowledge, confidence and skills necessary to reduce their risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sex or using condoms if they choose to have sex. The curriculum consists of eight modules delivered by trained facilitators to young adolescents. This is a paid internship. To receive the monetary stipend, the co-facilitator must complete 300 hours of internship time from September 2017 to May 2018.

Teens Climb High (TCH) is an empowerment program for middle school students in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools. TCH has been a part of the Compass Center in various formats for over 17 years. TCH provides participants with comprehensive sexuality education to make positive life choices and avoid teen pregnancy.

Co Facilitator Requirements

  • To attend two-day training for the Making Proud Choices! curriculum. Training dates are to be in the late summer or early fall of 2017. Travel and lodging will be reimbursed.

  • Availability to facilitate sessions during school day

  • Facilitate/ help support the facilitation of girl empowerment-focused lunch groups.

  • To facilitate 3-5 two-week MPC sessions during School Year.

    • Dates: to be determined. Estimated one session in the Fall and two in the Spring

    • Must co- facilitate two to five classes each day on selected school days at the times bolded below. Class times are as follows:

      • 8:20 am to 9:10 am

      • 9:14 am to 10:01 am

      • 10:05 am to 10:52 am

      • 12:38 pm to 1:25 pm

      • 1:29-2:16

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills

  • Experience with teaching/working with middle school-aged youth.

  • Consciousness around inclusive and culturally sensitive language.

  • Comfort being in front of a classroom and leading presentations/activities about sexual and reproductive health education.

  • Comfort in interacting with all people regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity
