About WELLS VALLEY CAT SANCTUARY

Location:

8 WELLS RD, NEW MILFORD, CT 06776, US

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to assist abandoned cats, feral cats, and cat colonies in New Milford and surrounding areas. By working with committed volunteers, fosters, and veterinarians, we nurture, provide medical care, and rehabilitate the cats and kittens while providing a safe and loving environment for as long as it takes to find them adoptive homes.

Description

Wells Valley Cat Sanctuary traps feral cats and kittens. We believe that TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is a healthy way to stabilize colonies in our area. WVCS also assists in trapping stray or abandoned cats and kittens. We are dedicated to working with each cat or kitten in the hope that they can be socialized. Once socialized, which can take many months, we then work hard to find them homes. Those that are not socialized or adoptable; due to age, loss of home/habitat or health concerns, will stay at the sanctuary where they will be provided shelter, food and veterinary care. At this time there are approximately 45 cats that have a permanent home at WVCS. If a cat has a stable colony in the community, with a caretaker, then they will be fully vetted and ear tipped then returned to that colony where they will be fed and taken care of. Trapping takes patience and time. We rely on volunteers that have been trained on how to trap. We also rely heavily on resources and funding from our community and former adopters.

Our efforts provide many benefits for the towns in our area. Colonies are healthy and the population is reduced as we continually spay or neuter new cats that appear at the colonies. Not all pet owners have the necessary finances to provide adequate care and vetting, so we will try to help by providing assistance. Our sanctuary is a small, yet thriving and quickly growing organization.
