Human Resources Assistant (Volunteer Position)

Position Summary:

The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing social opportunities to connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. The Human Resources Assistant is a part time volunteer position that involves a commitment of a few hours a week. The Human Resources Assistant will assist the Human Resources Director with various human resources responsibilities. The title of the position is subject to change before being hired.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide customer service; screen and direct phone calls, take and relay messages, answer questions from associates and the public regarding human resources issues, rules, and regulations
  • Respond to employment verification, salary, and payroll requests
  • Maintain human resources files ensuring timely and accurate records
  • Manages flow of Personnel Action Forms
  • Identify and attend industry specific job fairs and recruiting events
  • Data entry
  • Support new hire activities related to hiring and processing to include background checks, reference checks and coordination of drug testing
  • Assist HR Director in research projects
  • Other assignments as directed by HR Director

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions and high degree of contact by phone and in-person
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and timelines

The job of the mentor is to help the participants with their social skills and insure that everyone interacts with each other. The purpose of the Disability Allies is to plan team building activities that connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. At our events we pair each individual up with a mentor. The job of the mentor is to help the participants with their social skills and insure that everyone interacts with each other. Our events are open to any young adult that has a disability, knows someone with a disability or is supportive of people with disabilities. Currently our events will take place primarily in central New Jersey. We do plan on expanding and we will soon be doing events in all of New Jersey.
