Founded in 1964, MELC is a regional leader in providing families throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania with affordable, high quality educational environments for children 6 weeks to 12 years old. Today, MELC serves over 1,400 children through its 19 early childhood and school age sites in Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. Included in this number are early Head Start, Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts and Head Start programs.
For the past 50 years, MELC’s mission has been to develop, provide and advocate for high quality learning and school age programs for all children. Since our inception, our commitment to excellence is nationally recognized by multiple agencies including: NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), NAA (National Afterschool Association) and COA (Council on Accreditation). In addition, all of our early childhood centers have achieved at least a STAR 3 rating (out of 4) in PA’s Keystone STARS program. This program rates quality based on staff education, learning environment, leadership and management, and family and community partnerships.

Mission Statement
A nonprofit organization that helps families thrive by providing safe, convenient, and highest quality learning opportunities and care for children in Greater Philadelphia.
Description
Montgomery Early Learning Centers (MELC) was founded in 1964 as the Day Care Association of Montgomery County, Inc. to address unmet needs for child care locally, especially those of low-income families. Having started with just one, small site in Ambler, PA, MELC has now grown to serve more than 1,400 each week, ages 6 weeks to 12 years across 19 different sites throughout Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
In 1996, the agency began doing business as Montgomery Early Learning Centers to more accurately reflect the program’s focus on high quality educational curriculum and school readiness support.
We are dedicated to providing children not only with exceptional and nurturing care, but an environment that will encourage development and contribute to future academic success during the most important years for a child’s physical, social and cognitive development. We work to employ the most innovative and creative means of teaching early learners, dedicated to our philosophy that learning through play is the most effective.
