We are accepting Groups for morning and evening shifts!
NATURE AT NIGHT!!
Location: McDowell Nature Center
15222 York Rd.
Charlotte, NC 28278
Dates: Saturday, October 15, 2016
Shifts: Morning 10am-3pm,
Evening shift: 3pm-9pm
Description: Celebration of all things night festival. Example camp fires, hiking, and hay rides.
Qualifications: Ages 13 through adult are welcome. Teens must be supervised with 1 adult for every 5 teens.
Volunteer Job: Morning shift: Set up of booths, tents, luminaries, supplies, stations, etc.
Evening shift: Assist with face painting, crafts, food stations, animal and info tables, s ’mores, hayride
Qualifications (if any) needed by volunteer:
Dinner provided for evening shift only.
Park is 1 mile west of Shopton Road on Tryon/York road. Address is 15222 York Road.

Meeting location: McDowell Nature Center
This event will take place at McDowell Nature Center. We need volunteers for either morning shift or evening shift. Morning shift is from 10am to 3pm. Evening shift is from 3pm to 9pm. Morning shift will help set up things such as booths, tents, and help get stations ready. Evening shift will be more involved with the event such as facepainting, crafts, assisting with food stations, and more. Dinner will be provided for evening shift. Volunteers can include teens to adults. But teens should be accompanied by one adult. To assist Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department staff in providing services needed to offer quality recreation leisure services to the community by: - Supporting direct services provided to the public by salaried department staff. - Supplementing internal support service functions, including maintenance, clerical, administrative and similar tasks. 2. To provide the residents of Mecklenburg County opportunities for community involvement and to increase their awareness of the Department's responsibilities, facilities and services.
Description
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation's Mission: "Enhancing community wellness through recreation, open space, and natural resources." Our Vision is that "People who recreate in Mecklenburg County will have a system of parks, greenways, and open space located throughout the County that will provide more parkland per capita than the national average, will connect neighborhoods, satisfies public recreation needs, and will protect environmentally sensitive areas." Park & Recreation utilizes hundreds of Volunteers every year, supporting and supplementing the efforts of our staff in every area of our Department:
- Helping to care for and beautify 230 Parks and facilities, 55+ miles of Greenway and 21 Nature Preserves
- Working as registered and trained Youth Sport Coaches, Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, SHIIP Counselors and Tutors/Mentors
- Assisting in Recreation Centers, Senior Centers and Nature Centers with programs, events and day-to-day operations
- Volunteering with Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Services to help provide recreation, sport and leisure programs that are accessible to everyone
