The TURN PURPLE CAMPAIGN is a national movement to create a culture that does not accept the mistreatment of children or youth living on the streets. A multi-tiered year round initiative, we aim to turn the nation purple annually in April, beginning in 2006, in order to raise awareness for the 1.3 million American children who ran away from home in 2004 - 90% of whom were victims of child abuse. The TURN PURPLE CAMPAIGNwill help expand the resources available to youth living on the streets, decrease the number of runaways, create a base of constituents who are looking to advocate for abused children, and heighten awareness that at-risk, homeless, and street kids are not "rebels without a cause" but survivors of abuse.
