ORGANIZATION: RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program of Monroe and Owen Counties

  • 3 people are interested
Tax preparation

Help seniors with disabilities keep track of expenses, balance their checkbooks, and learn
good money management habits by being a Bill Payer. Volunteers are paired with a senior
close to their home. Volunteers meet with senior once or twice a month at their home for an hour or two. Volunteer activities include providing assistance in paying monthly bills,
setting up automatic bill payments, maintaining the check register, and assisting with
budgeting questions. Training provided.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for a person who is organized and interested in
helping a neighbor. Volunteers usually spend 2-4 hours with their client each month for a year or longer.

RSVP volunteers have served throughout Monroe and Owen Counties since 1988, helping at non-profits, health care facilities, and governmental units. Volunteers use their experience and expertise to give back, making a difference, and leaving a legacy for future generations.

Volunteers benefit greatly from their service, perhaps even more than the non-profit. Scientific studies have shown that volunteers enjoy health benefits like lower blood pressure, depression and social isolation, and higher levels of brain functioning, physical ability, and happiness when compared to non-volunteers.

The RSVP office provides:

-information about pressing volunteer needs in our area

-assistance locating opportunities that match your interests/schedule

-(optional) monthly special events emails, informing you of one-time events and assistance getting registered

-supplemental insurance while volunteering

-life

-medical accident

-liability (including auto liability)

-monthly potluck/birthday party

-an annual cookout and awards banquet to celebrate your service

-social connection to other like-minded volunteers

We ask volunteers to track their time spent volunteering, and report to us monthly (www.area10agency.org/volunteerhours). We use this data to let local, state, and federal agencies know where mature adults in our community are volunteering, and what impact they are having, and to measure our success. Thanks for your help in this important aspect of volunteer service.
