Position Background and Description

The Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing (FPCIW) explores the innovative uses of technology to empower individuals to live well, especially in their later years. FPCIW works collaboratively with all stakeholders and in partnership with funding sources, researchers and technology partners.

The Tele-dentistry project is a 3-year dental health initiative funded by California Wellness Foundation and led by the Pacific Center for Special Care at University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. The project aims to deliver oral health care services to low-income vulnerable senior populations in Los Angeles by implementing Virtual Dental Home system.

Job Functions

OUTREACH

  1. Promote and organize oral health fair at community sites.

  2. Create and/or translate community outreach fliers.


TRAINING/SUPPORT

  1. Provide direct support to dental navigators and dental hygienists.

  2. Coordinate with resident service coordinators to set up and maintain cleanliness.

  3. Exercise high degree of sensitivity and privacy toward personal health information.

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Participate in regular team meetings.
  2. Document activities and events through photos, notes, and other observations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to verbally express ideas assertively, clearly.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others to secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of people.

  • Knowledge of dental terminology and public health is helpful but not necessary.

  • Bilingual in English and Korean/Spanish/Russian or any other languages a plus!

Time Commitment and Pay

This is an unpaid, part-time volunteer position for 4-10 hours/week once a week during regular workday hours, as agreed upon between the volunteer and the FPCTIW director. The term of this volunteer position will be from July 1, 2016 to December 1, 2016.
