ORGANIZATION: Volunteers of America Texas

Audrey Hepburn- "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." We are looking for hardworking enthusiastic volunteers with green thumbs to help us grow and maintain our community garden here at Avenue J. Avenue J is a residential re-entry center for people exiting the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Volunteering in this capacity will beautify our community, teach our clients social relationship skills, the importance of team work, and ultimately the need to give back to the environment.

Avenue J Volunteer Gardners would be incharge of teaching our clients how to garden, grow and maintain Community Garden, and must be able to work with diverse group of people. Avenue J would provide food and refreshments for volunteers, as well as all the required materials and supplies (gloves, shovels, rakes, water hoses, soil, etc.). Volunteers will report to the Service Coordinator Donnie Chaney or Daisy Lopez for the on-site orientation and training. Volunteers are required to work a minimum of two hours shift, once a week for at least three months to a year.

Gordon B. Hinckley- "Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds."
