BGC Tustin

The Boys and Girls Club of Tustin is currently seeking individuals to come speak to our teen center about the seriousness of racism.

This will be an opportunity for at least three individuals to come conduct a 1-hour panel and have an open discussion about racism. We expect the guest panelists to give a better understanding about the definitions of racism. Panelists can also discuss real facts and incidents of people who have dealt with or engaged in racist attitudes. This can include the possible consequences of using inappropriate behavior in school, the community and for future employment.

The overall topics the panelists should discuss are racism definitions and the ramifications of engaging in racist behaviors.

NOTE: In the event that only 1 guest speaker is interested, we will instead conduct a full discussion with the class only using one guest speaker instead of a 3 panel discussion.

Time and Place

We will be conducting this panel discussion Wednesday July 27th at 2:00PM at

The Boys & Girls Club of Tustin located at 580 W Sixth Street

Tustin, CA 92780-4355

Qualifications

We are currently seeking guest speaker/panelists who are 18 and older. Speakers can be college students, but must have a major related to the topic being discussed (sociology, criminal justice, ethnic studies etc) We will also require a brief description of your occupation and list of credentials to let us know why you should speak to our teenagers. We will also ask speakers to use appropriate language and demeanor when speaking to our teens (this means no cursing or inappropriate behavior when engaging with our club members).

Also, please no PowerPoints or multimedia tools, this must be a vocal discussion with our teenagers

Demographics

You will be conducting the panel (or full discussion) for teenage club members, aged 14 to 17. This panel will be for 15 to 20 club members. As for ethnicities, there will be a diverse audience amongst our club members.

Background Information

Before volunteering with our organization, will ask that you sign out a one-day waiver, which will be emailed prior to the discussion date.
