ORGANIZATION: Portland Japanese Garden

The horticultural support program is a hands-on program that is perfect for the rugged volunteer who is eager to get their hands dirty with tasks such as: sweeping pathways, raking moss, picking blossoms, clearing away weeds, and pulling ivy.

Volunteer Shifts are 4 hours long (8am to 12pm) and are available on Mondays only.

Essential Duties:

  • weeding
  • raking
  • sweeping
  • ivy pulls
  • pond clean-up
  • No pruning involved.

Position requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend over, and kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift small loads of 10 lbs or less.
  • Minimum volunteer commitment of 1 year required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative work environment
  • Enjoy working outside in all types of weather.

Position Preferences:

  • Interest in Japanese culture and history, or landscape design and horticulture.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Volunteer on a regular Monday schedule of 8-12pm. Shifts are 4 hours long for a total of 16 volunteer hours per month. Must be able to volunteer for a period no shorter than one year.
  • Must be 18 years old or older
