Urban Green Lab facilitates a range of educational and social programs that inspire participants to make sustainability a bigger part of their lives. Our Mobile Lab - an innovative interactive traveling classroom - reached nearly 2,500 urban public school students in its first semester. The Lab enables us to reach diverse and underserved populations and to enhance schools science and technology curricula.

We have four (4) AmeriCorps VISTA positions available to start this fall. 1) The Development VISTA will be integral to implementing the organization's fundraising plan to ensure project sustainability. 2) The Communications VISTA will implement, expand, strengthen and refine a communications strategy to lay the groundwork for future project and organizational sustainability. The VISTA will also strengthen community connections and build support for the project by organizing, promoting, and facilitating community education events. 3) The Program Evaluation & Grants VISTA will monitor and evaluate Urban Green Lab programming and write grants for the organization. 4) The Volunteer Engagement & Mobile Lab VISTA will enhance and expand volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement, as well as coordinate all Mobile Lab visits.

The positions require strong organization, attention to detail, motivation and initiative, writing and communication skills, leadership, and teamwork. The positions are excellent opportunities to gain valuable experience in the nonprofit world as well as develop and grow marketable and transferable skills.

The position is full time Monday-Friday 9 AM-5 PM with occasional night and weekend work. Personal time off and holidays are provided. The AmeriCorps VISTA program provides benefits including health coverage, living allowance, relocation assistance, training, and choice of education award or stipend upon successful completion of service. Term of service is one year and begins November 5, 2016.

Please apply directly for one or more of the positions through the MyAmeriCorps website (https://my.americorps.gov/mp/login.do) and "search listings" with program name "learning lab."

Deadline to apply is September 1, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Preference may be given to applications submitted early.

Description

Urban Green Lab is Nashville’s first nonprofit dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our city through sustainable living. We fill a gap by offering programs that inspire people of all ages to incorporate sustainability into their daily lives. Our workshops - on everything from green building to urban agriculture - spark positive changes at home and work that save money, improve health, and conserve resources. Through partnerships with local businesses, government, and nonprofits, we expand our reach in offering this needed service, and team with local colleges to monitor our impact.

Urban Green Lab is building the city’s first mobile sustainability laboratory. This vehicle, outfitted with interactive exhibits and green technologies, will travel to schools, businesses, and community events across Nashville. Our mobile lab enables us to reach diverse and underserved populations and to enhance schools’ science and technology curricula.
