The Boys & Girls Club of Tustin has created a new kind of volunteer position related to communtiy outreach. This postion is very beneficial for those interested in pursuing a career in adminstration or research.

Volunteer Description : Community Relations Volunteers
Proactively contacts phone numbers to initiate community relationships and possible donations with perspective clients.

• Setting up appointments with perspective clients for donations, grants and volunteering needs
• Forwarding contacts to supervisor (Creative marketing director) to discuss further donation possibilities
• Proper telephone etiquette and customer service
• Basic knowledge of non-profit orgnizations and marketing

Training: A script will be provided prior to calling numbers. A staff member or supervisor will be present with volunteer when making calls. These calls can be made for 1 to 2 hours a day, preferably from 3 to 5pm, since these are the prime times to call (after lunch, before dinner). Other times can be arranged as well.

Equipment: Telephones and computers and possibly tablets and laptops

Computer Software: Microsoft word, Excel spreadsheets

Skills needed:

Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Social Perceptiveness-Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

Speech Clarity- The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.

Communicating with Multiple Organization-representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
