ORGANIZATION: Boston Cares

In support of our mission to ensure young people succeed, Boston Cares, New England’s largest volunteer mobilizing organization, is recruiting middle school students with a demonstrated commitment to community service to help us bring service to youth across the Greater Boston area! Together, the Junior Teen Advisory Council (JTAC) will meet monthly from September-June to plan the Boston Cares June goCreate project. goCreates are portable service projects that give youth the opportunity to volunteer by crafting in-kind donations for local organizations. The Junior Teen Advisory Council is a great opportunity for young volunteers to make a manageable, long-term commitment to service, meet with like-minded individuals, and create a project that gives kids and teens between the ages of 5-17 an opportunity to volunteer.

Junior Teen Advisory Members will:

* Be in middle school during the 2016 - 2017 calendar year
* Live or attend school in the Boston Metro Area
* Spend an average of 5 hours per month on related projects and attending meetings
* Commit to at least one year of service on the board, beginning in the fall of 2016 - 2017
* Be responsible for finding necessary transportation to meetings and other events (within metro area)
* Represent Boston Cares in a responsible manner while participating in Junior Teen Advisory Council activities

Mission Statement

Boston Cares organizes and leads team-oriented volunteer opportunities and services in and around Boston that have a positive impact on individuals and communities. Our organization was founded on the simple idea that anyone with a little time and a passion for improving their community can make a difference. Through acts of volunteerism, we believe we can build a stronger community and a more just world. The very basic core of that work must be rooted in the belief that we all have a place of value in this community, and that our diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, abilities, and lived experiences enrich our community.

Description

Boston Cares is the largest volunteer agency in New England, a member of the Points of Light Global Network, and an award-winning leader in the volunteer engagement sector. Filling more than 20,000 volunteer spots annually in support of more than 150 Greater Boston schools and non-profit agencies, we offer a wide array of programs and opportunities that make it simple for you to volunteer no matter how busy your schedule. We believe volunteers transform communities through service and civic engagement.
