CASA Volunteer

CASA of San Mateo County are Court Appointed Special Advocates giving a foster child a voice in the court room. CASA advocates create a one-on-one, consistent relationship with the child they serve. They also mentor the child throughout the time the child is under the court's supervision.

Male Mentor's can change and empower a young man's life and be a positive role model for that child. Currently, many male children are left without a CASA advocate due to lack of male volunteers.

According to the "Bureau of Labor Statistics", in 2015, 21.8% of males were involved with volunteering and 27.8% were female. For this study, 62,623 volunteer's were surveyed in total; 26,498 being male and 36,126 being female. (http://www.bls.gov/news.release/volun.nr0.htm)

According specifically to CASA of San Mateo County, in the last fiscal year - 19% of advocates were male and 81% were female. Regarding both statistics, there is a significantly higher rate of female volunteer's versus male volunteer's.

CASA of San Mateo County wants to change this statistic!

About CASA of San Mateo County

Sobrato Center for Nonprofits - Redwood Shores, 330 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065, US

Mission Statement

The mission of CASA is to ensure that all abused and neglected children have a consistent and caring adult who speaks on their behalf and helps them reach their full potential.

Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of San Mateo County empowers YOU to make a difference in the life of a child who has been abused or neglected.

What We do: CASA of San Mateo County recruits, trains, and supports adult volunteers as a powerful voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children who have come under the court’s protection because their parents can’t or won’t take care of them.

What CASA Volunteers do: They listen first. Then they act. Volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child by talking with everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. They provide consistent, caring support and make sure the child doesn't get lost in the system.

For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. For many volunteers, CASA is a life-changing experience that makes a difference in our community.
