Volunteer & Intern Services at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is looking for dedicated volunteers for its monthly newsletter. We are in need of the following position:

Content Writer/Editor

In order to strengthen the Arsht Center's Volunteer presence internally, the Content Writing & Editing Volunteer will work to produce enriching and engaging content related to Arsht Volunteers and events/performances here at the Arsht Center (including off-site events). The newsletter editor’s primary task for the term of the assignment is to solicit content from contributors as scheduled, format it for use on website and prepare it for distribution via our emailed newsletter and social media channels.

Using pagination software, the newsletter editor compiles and organizes articles into a timely monthly volunteer newsletter. The editor also assembles volunteers to prepare the newsletter for publication and arranges for its distribution. Knowledge of pagination and word-processing software, such as Microsoft Word and Publisher; good organization skills; ability to write clearly and concisely; ability to perform well under deadline pressure; and ability to work as part of a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop engaging and compelling newsletters and website content with a specific focus on Arsht volunteers.
  • Assists in the development of content strategies.
  • Guarantees the quality of media content.
  • Assumes accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the content.
  • Directly represents the organization’s mission and vision through content writing.
  • Effectively composes content that is related to Volunteers and the Arsht Center
  • Effectively address the target audience and the purpose of the communication with proper tone, sentence structure and word count, ensuring the copy is factually correct and that the language used is accurate as well as user friendly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, Journalism/Communications or related field is Preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in multimedia and social media.
  • Previous working experience at an advocacy organization will be an advantage.
  • Experience in creating and posting content on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint) applications and graphic design platforms (Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva, etc.) is preferred.
  • Great proof-reading, copy-writing and copy-editing skills
  • Be familiar with graphic design techniques.
  • Flexible and engaging towards other volunteers and Arsht employees and contractors.
Time Commitment

It is expected that the newsletter editor will spend approximately 5-10 hours a month working on the newsletter. Although this is a volunteer position, it directly impacts all the volunteers and is a critical source of information for the volunteer corps. The editor will also be required to volunteer for performances in order to establish a solid rapport with Arsht Volunteers and staff. This also helps the editor become more relatable to the volunteers and their concerns.

Free Tours
We encourage all interested persons to tour our facility prior to signing up as a volunteer. Tours are facilitated every Monday and Saturday, beginning at noon. Tours are free to the public.
